How to Plant Arugula Leaves
Planting Preparation
To start planting arugula, prepare a 10×20 sized container, organic potting soil, lamp light (if growing indoors), arugula plant seeds and a spray bottle.
Arugula Planting
Try to plant arugula seeds on a flat surface and pay attention to the soil free from dirt and the surface is really flat and smooth.
If using a media tray measuring 10×20, then plant about 30 ml of arugula seeds. If using different containers, it is necessary to see the right comparison so that the density level is appropriate.
It is recommended to use at least 2.5 cm of soil or planting medium, but 5 cm is recommended if you are going to grow arugula for 8-9 days, at which point the true leaves are starting to form and rely on nutrients in the soil instead of the nutrients in the seed leaves.
After planting, it is advisable to cover the container with something that will block out all light. You can use the other 10×20 tray in an inverted or other closed position.
The goal is to provide an optimal germination environment for arugula seeds. After covering the container, place it in a relatively cool (about 21°C) low-light area.
Plant Care
To care for arugula, first keep the arugula plant away from light for about 72 hours and every day open the container and spray it once or twice with a spray bottle and don't overdo it, which can kill the plant.
Make sure not to let any light in, this is to prevent the seedlings from bending towards the light and lying flat on the surface, this will cause the plant to grow poorly.
If done correctly, then arugula seeds to germinate and reach an acceptable length.
On days 8-9 after planting keep watering the plants but not with much water. On days 5 and 6, the arugula microgreens will be ready for lighting and have grown to a length of 2.5-4 cm.
If planting outdoors, the plants must be watered more often because the plants are directly exposed to sunlight. Conversely, if the plant is grown indoors then there is no need to increase the watering routine.
Harvest
Harvesting arugula can be done by cutting the plant about 1.5 cm from the medium and not washing it or when it is green and reaches a height of about 8 cm with open leaves, it is time to harvest.
