Get to know Aquaponics and its cultivation

For all my friends, you may have heard of aquaponics. For those who haven't, let's learn together.

Aquaponics is a combination of fish cultivation (aquaculture) along with plant cultivation using water (Hydroponics) at the same time in the same container.

Many people have tried Aquaponics and are starting to be widely discussed. Aquaponics is quite unique and has succeeded in attracting people's attention to try it.

Apart from saving costs, the cultivated plants and fish make a profit from each. Fish will get clean and nutritious water from plants while plants will get nutrients from fish waste.

Advantages of Aquaponics

1. Because you use the same container, it saves space.

2. The water used will be much more efficient, almost 80-90%.

3. There is no need to look for fertile land because it does not use the land.

4. Do not use pesticides.

5. No need to worry about weeds.

6. The containers used can be used for a long period of time.

7. Apart from saving costs, it also saves energy because there is no need to provide food for the fish, because the fish get their food from plants. Apart from that, fish waste becomes organic fertilizer for plants.

8. Get 2 results at once from one cultivation.

9. Become a learning medium for vocational students or university students in fisheries and the like.

10. Plants can be cultivated or planted at a fairly high density.

How to Cultivate Using Aquaponics

1. Provide a pond for fish.

2. Make a container for the plant. Use a paralon pipe and make a hole for the plant. Make a small hole at the end of the paralon to drain the water into the pond containing the fish.

3. Before moving the seeds to the planting container, make sure the seeds for the plants have been sown and are growing well.

4. Prepare a plant container, you can use an old plastic bottle or pot. Then, to absorb the water, use a cloth that can absorb like the wick used on an oil stove.

5. Once the plant has begun to show growth progress, move it to the paralon. In the pot or bottle, you can use husks or cork as a planting medium.

6. Use a pump that is usually used in aquariums then insert it into the pipe. This is used to make the water in the fish pond flow into the paralon and back into the fish pond again.

7. Make sure both develop well. If the growth is good you can harvest vegetables within a month while fish can take up to half a year.

Types of plants and fish that can be used for aquaponics

Indeed, not all types of plants can be grown using aqaponics. Below we will explain several plants that you can try growing using hydroponic cultivation.
1. Tomato
2. Paprika
3. Purple eggplant
4. Beans
5. Lettuce
6. Sweet potato
7. Strawberry
8. Peas
9. Chili
10. Melon, etc.

Meanwhile, the fish that are usually cultivated using aquaponics are:
1. Tilapia
2. Goldfish
3. Catfish
4. Fresh lobster
5. Eel
6. Patin, etc.

How? Do you know how to cultivate it, right? Hopefully this information is useful for all readers. Good luck.
